Convince Your Boss

Want to attend CloudOpen North America 2014 but not sure how to bring up the subject with your boss? Well, we’ve got a sample letter to help make the process easier. See you in Chicago!

“Convince Your Boss” Letter

Dear {Boss Name},

I’d like to attend CloudOpen North America 2014 taking place August 20 - 22, 2014, in Chicago. I’ve researched many conferences, and CloudOpen is the only event providing an education and collaboration space designed specifically to advance the open cloud. It is a conference celebrating and gathering together the open source projects, products, technologies and companies who comprise the cloud and are driving the cloud and big data ecosystems today and tomorrow.

Over 1,000 of the most talented individuals in the industry gather together for this event—it’s like a pop up think tank! We’ve seen the Linux ecosystem shift and grow exponentially in recent years, and much of the work that has led to these accomplishments happened at CloudOpen.

Here’s how I envision my attendance at CloudOpen strengthening our company:

  • CloudOpen offers 70 sessions covering a variety of topics relevant to my job; containers, virtualization, big data, cloud platforms and much more.
  • The co-located LinuxCon offers content across three different verticals (Developer, Operations and Business); 6 tracks over 3 days for a total of over 100 sessions. These sessions include presentations, hands-on tutorials, deep-dive technical lectures, and visionary keynotes from industry leaders. And, there is no additional cost to attend these sessions!

You can learn more about the event by clicking here and view last year’s CloudOpen + LinuxCon keynotes and other videos here.

There is an early bird registration price of $750 (full price is $850) which ends July 18. Included in the registration fee is attendance to all CloudOpen + LinuxCon sessions, attendance to some co-located events, access to the technology showcase, hallway tracks and lounges, continental breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon breaks. It also includes entrance to Evening Events including the Opening Reception and Booth Crawl.

would be happy to write a post-conference report detailing what I’ve learned, and recommend any changes we can implement to improve our practices.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns; I hope we can make this opportunity work.
