ONF SDN Market Opps Tutorial

Network operators are continuing to evaluate and deploy emerging SDN /NFV products for a range of use cases, driven by new business models that will rationalize near-term investments. OEMs are continuing to push the envelope on new products, many based on open source, that on the one hand threatens their traditional business, but on the other, presents unprecedented opportunities. Industry groups, guided by network operator needs, are also continuing to adapt as well.

This tutorial offers a pragmatic assessment of SDN / NFV progress across the diverse networking ecosystem. Emphasis has been placed on revealing insights from the early adopters, across the Data Center, Carrier, and Enterprise segments. We also examine the dramatic role that open source software is exacting on the OEMs and industry groups alike. There will be plenty of opportunities for your questions to be addressed as well.

About Open Networking Foundation

Open Networking Foundation (ONF) is a user-driven organization dedicated to the promotion and adoption of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) through open standards development. SDN is a new approach to networking in which network control is decoupled from the data forwarding function and is directly programmable. The result is an extremely dynamic, manageable, cost-effective, and adaptable architecture that gives administrators unprecedented programmability, automation, and control. Implementing SDN via an open standard enables extraordinary agility while reducing service development and operational costs, and frees network administrators to integrate best-of-breed technology as it is developed. ONF emphasizes an open, collaborative development process that is driven from the end-user perspective. Our signature accomplishment to date is introducing the OpenFlow™ Standard, which enables remote programming of the forwarding plane. The OpenFlow Standard is the first SDN standard and a vital element of an open software-defined network architecture. Learn more about ONF at opennetworking.org.
