About San Diego

We are excited to welcome you to OpenIoT Summit 2016 in San Diego, California!

San Diego is California's second largest city, known for its idyllic climate, 70 miles of pristine beaches, and an array of world class attractions. With a population of 1.3 million residents, there are 18 incorporated cities and numerous charming neighborhoods and communities including the historic Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, Coronado, Carlsbad and La Jolla - just to name a few. The most difficult decision to make regarding a visit to San Diego is what to do and see!

San Diego Fun Facts

San Diego produces more avocados than any other place in the United States!

The city imports an estimated 80 to 90 percent of its water, totaling 168 million gallons a day.

The San Diego Zoo was heavily shown in the 2004 Will Ferrell movie "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy." However, the scenes were filmed at the old Los Angeles Zoo and not the San Diego Zoo as depicted!

San Diego International Airport is the busiest one runway airport in the United States and second busiest in the world.

The weather might be a dream, but the traffic sure isn't! The average motorist spends a grueling 256 hours a year sitting in the car.

Things to Do and See

Spend a day at the Museum of Man
Transform your mind through great exhibits at the San Diego Museum of Man. Their exhibits range from real mummies from Egypt and Mexico to the history of beer making. For the first time in 80 years, the California Tower is now open for public tours. See amazing views covering hundreds of square miles including the ocean, the harbor, the mountains and downtown!

Shop and Dine in the Gaslamp Quarter
The historic Gaslamp Quarter's Merchant Association goes back to the mid 1800's when William Heath Davis developed New Town in 1850. The Gaslamp Quarter's colorful history, combined with its modern world-class boutiques, galleries and restaurants is what makes this urban district unlike any other. Watch a sunset at Sunset Cliffs
Sunset Cliffs is one of the most breathtaking places in San Diego, especially to watch a sunset and stare out into the ocean. On the right day, you can see dolphins or catch the whales migrating up and down the coast.

Visit the USS Midway Museum
The USS Midway Museum is an unforgettable adventure. Spend the day exploring more than 60 exhibits with a collection of 29 restored aircrafts on one of America's longest serving aircraft carriers. Those who dare can "take to the sky" aboard one of two flight simulators. Enjoy this floating city at sea and walk in the footsteps of 225,000 Midway sailors!

Explore the Flower Fields
For over sixty years, Mother Nature has transformed the rolling hills of Carlsbad into the most spectacular and coordinated displays of natural color and beauty. The fields are only in bloom approximately six to eight weeks out of the year- and they happen to be in bloom during Embedded Linux Conference 2016!
