Convince Your Boss

Want to attend Open Source Summit 2018, but not sure how to bring it up with your boss? We’ve created the sample letter below to help you make your case.

Dear {Name},

I’d like to attend the upcoming Open Source Summit Conference taking place August 29-31 in Vancouver. I’ve researched many conferences – and this is THE conference to attend for developers, sysadmins, devops professionals, architects and community leadership professionals that want to expand their skills, solve technical issues with the best and brightest in the community and learn/collaborate within the open source ecosystems.

Over 2,000 of the most talented individuals in the industry gather together for this event  – it’s like a pop-up think tank!

Here’s how I envision my attendance at Open Source Summit 2018 strengthening our company:

  • Open Source Summit connects the open source ecosystem under one roof. It covers cornerstone open source technologies; helps ecosystem leaders to navigate open source transformation with the Diversity Empowerment Summit and tracks on business and compliance; and delves into the newest technologies and latest trends touching open source, including networking, cloud-native, edge computing, AI and much more. It is an extraordinary opportunity for cross-pollination between the developers, sysadmins, DevOps professionals and IT architects driving the future of technology.
  • The infamous “hallway track” at Open Source Summit will allow me to meet the top technical minds in the ecosystem. I hope to meet others that might face the same challenges and problems I do so that we can work together to solve technical issues now and in the future. Creating strategic partnerships at the event could be very useful in the future when we encounter new challenges.

You can learn more about the conference and view last year’s keynotes and other videos here.

Included in the registration fee is access to all Open Source Summit keynotes and sessions, some co-located events, access to the sponsor technology showcase, hallway tracks and lounges, continental breakfast, and morning and afternoon breaks. It also includes entrance to the evening events, including Sponsor Showcase and other evening networking events.

I would be happy to write a post-conference report detailing what I’ve learned and to recommend any changes we can implement to improve our practices.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I hope we can make this opportunity work.

Thank you,
{Your Name}
