Convince Your Boss

Want to attend LinuxCon North America 2016, but not sure how to bring up the subject with your boss? Well, we’ve got a sample letter to help make the process easier. See you in Toronto!

“Convince Your Boss” Letter

Dear {Name},

I’d like to attend the upcoming LinuxCon +ContainerCon North America Conference taking place August 22-24, 2016, in Toronto. I’ve researched many conferences, and this is THE conference to attend for developers, sysadmins, devops professionals, architects and other technologists that want to expand their skills, solve technical issues with the best and the brightest in the community and to learn and collaborate within the Linux, container, cloud computing and open source ecosystems.

Over 2,000 of the most talented individuals in the industry gather together for this event—it’s like a pop up think tank!

Here’s how I envision my attendance at LinuxCon + ContainerCon North America 2016 strengthening our company:

  • LinuxCon + ContainerCon offers content across three different verticals (Developer, Operations and Business); 10 tracks over 3 days for a total of over 150+ sessions covering a wide range of technologies, use cases and implementations. These sessions include presentations, hands-on tutorials, deep-dive technical lectures, and visionary keynotes from industry leaders. Attending these sessions will allow me to build my knowledge and learn from other community members on best practices.

  • The infamous “hallway track” at LinuxCon + ContainerCon will allow me to meet the top technical minds in the ecosystem. I hope to meet others that might face the same challenges and problems I do so that we can work together to solve technical issues now and in the future. Creating strategic partnerships at the event could be very useful in the future when we encounter new challenges.

You can learn more about the event by clicking here and view last year’s keynotes and other videos here.

If I register before May 28th, the fee is only US$900. Included in the registration fee is attendance to all LinuxCon + ContainerCon sessions, attendance to some co-located events, access to the sponsor technology showcase, hallway tracks and lounges, continental breakfast, morning and afternoon breaks. It also includes entrance to Evening Events including the Opening Reception and Booth Crawl.

I would be happy to write a post-conference report detailing what I’ve learned, and recommend any changes we can implement to improve our practices.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns; I hope we can make this opportunity work.
