Linux Foundation Research and Meta have collaborated to assess the economic and workforce impact of open source artificial intelligence (AI). Join us for a roundtable on May 21 to explore key findings and insights.
Through a comprehensive review of prior academic and industry literature, this study investigated the adoption rates, economic benefits, and workforce impacts of open source AI, and examined its sector-specific impacts in healthcare, energy, agriculture, construction, and manufacturing.
Key insights include:
- Widespread AI adoption – 94% of organizations are already using AI tools.
- Open source advantage for smaller companies – Adoption is higher among smaller organizations, offering flexibility and cost savings.
- Cost efficiency – 66% of organizations report open source AI is more affordable than proprietary solutions.
- Sector-specific impacts – AI is expected to contribute $90–150B to construction and $40–70B to agriculture.
