Author and Fellow at Harvard’s Berkman Klein CenterAmber Case studies the interaction between humans and computers and how our relationship with information is changing the way cultures think, act, and understand their worlds. Case is currently a fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society and a visiting researcher at the MIT Center for Civic Media. Case is the author of Calm Technology, Design for the Next Generation of Devices. She spoke about the future of the interface for SXSW 2012’s keynote address, and her TED talk, “We are all cyborgs now,” has been viewed over a million times. Named one of National Geographic’s Emerging Explorers, she’s been listed among Inc. Magazine’s 30 under 30 and featured among Fast Company’s Most Influential Women in Technology. She was the co-founder and former CEO of Geoloqi, a location-based software company acquired by Esri in 2012. In 2008, Case founded CyborgCamp, an unconference on the future of humans and computers. Roboticist & AuthorDaniel H. Wilson is a Cherokee citizen and author of the New York Times bestselling Robopocalypse and its sequel Robogenesis, as well as seven other books, including How to Survive a Robot Uprising, A Boy and His Bot, and Amped. He earned a PhD in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University, as well as Masters degrees in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. His latest novel is called The Clockwork Dynasty. Wilson lives in Portland, Oregon.
Corporate Vice President & General Manager, Open Source Technology Center, IntelImad Sousou is corporate vice president and general manager of the Open Source Technology Center at Intel Corporation. Sousou is responsible for leading Intel's efforts in open source software across technologies and market segments. These include: Linux-based operating systems such as Linux for data center and devices, Google Android and Chrome OS, and Alibaba AliOS; cloud and data center stacks such as orchestrators, containers, virtualization, as well as cloud and networking system components; and IoT/edge system software including, robotics operating system, drone system software, real-time operating systems, microcontroller operating systems, embedded Linux, and software defined cockpit and client device software. He also leads development of software solutions such as Clear Linux, Zephyr, and Yocto and drives the technical relationship and enabling for Linux operating system vendors, cloud service providers, and original equipment manufacturers supporting customer platforms with on-site engineering and enabling partner products to ensure they include the latest Intel technologies. Sousou joined Intel in 1994 as a senior software engineer. Prior to leading the Open Source Technology Center, he was director of telecom software programs in the Intel Communications Group and director of software engineering in the Home Products Group. He began his career as a software engineer at Central Point Software working on system utilities for the Apple Mac OS. Intel has twice honored Sousou with the Intel Achievement Award; in 2007 for his role in the agreement with Sun Microsystems on Open Solaris, and in 2011 for leadership through open source solutions. Sousou sits on the board of directors at the OpenStack Foundation, the Open Connectivity Foundation, the Dronecode Foundation, and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation; on the advisory board for the Core Infrastructure Initiative at the Linux Foundation; and holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from Portland State University.

The Linux FoundationKate is a Senior Director of Strategic Programs responsible for the Open Compliance programs encompassing the SPDX, FOSSology, OpenChain and other compliance related projects. Kate was one of the original founders of SPDX, and is currently the specification lead. Since joining the Linux Foundation, Kate has also launched the Real-Time Linux and Zephyr Projects. With almost 30 years of experience in the software industry, she has held a variety of roles and worked as a developer in Canada, Australia and the US and for the last 20 years has managed software development teams in the US, Canada, UK, India and China. She received her Masters in Computer Science from University of Waterloo in 1987, and Bachelors of Computer Science (co-op program) from the University of Manitoba in 1985.
Arduino ProjectMassimo Banzi is the co-founder of the Arduino project. He is an Interaction Designer, Educator and Open Source Hardware advocate. He has worked as a consultant for clients such as: Prada, Artemide, Persol, Whirlpool, V&A Museum and Adidas. Massimo started the first FabLab in Italy which led to the creation of Officine Arduino, a FabLab/Makerspace based in Torino. He spent 4 years at the Interaction Design Institue Ivrea as Associate Professor. Massimo has taught workshops and has been a guest speaker at institutions allover the world. Before joining IDII he was CTO for the Seat Ventures incubator. He spent many years working as a software architect,both in Milan and London, on projects for clients like Italia Online, Sapient, Labour Party, BT, MCI WorldCom, SmithKlineBeecham, Storagetek, BSkyB and boo.com. Massimo is also the author of “Getting Started with Arduino” published by O’Reilly. He is a regular contributor to the italian edition of Wired Magazine and Che Futuro, an online magazine about innovation. He currently teaches Interaction Design at SUPSI Lugano in the south of Switzerland and is a visiting professor at CIID in Copenhagen.
Dell EMCPatricia Florissi is Vice President and Global Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Sales. As Global CTO for Sales, Patricia helps define mid and long term technology strategy, representing the needs of the broader Dell EMC ecosystem in strategic initiatives. Patricia also acts as the liaison between Dell EMC and our customers and partners, to foster stronger alliances and deliver higher value. Patricia was previously the Vice President and Global CTO for Sales at EMC prior to the merger between Dell and EMC. She also holds the honorary title of EMC Distinguished Engineer, having been nominated in October 2007. Patricia is the creator, author, narrator, and graphical influencer of the educational video series Dell EMC Big Ideas (http://bit.ly/DellEMCBigIdeas ), on emerging technologies and trends. The Big Ideas animated videos accelerate and expand technical thought leadership in EMC using innovative learning methodologies in a fun, easy way without talking about products to both internal and external audiences. There are over 20 videos in the series, with some videos localized in 10 languages, and with a combined total count of over half a million views. Patricia also writes articles on the impact of Big Data in accelerating innovation (http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GITR_Newsletter_June_2014.pdf) to the 2014 World Economic Forum (WEF) Global IT Report Newsletters (http://www.weforum.org/issues/global-information-technology). Patricia joined EMC in February 2005 via the System Management Arts (SMARTS) acquisition as a Distinguished Technologist in the Ionix business unit, and became the CTO for Ionix in November 2005. As CTO, Patricia was responsible for defining, and communicating the medium- to long-term vision EMC would embrace for delivering solutions to automate the management of Information Infrastructure resources. Patricia was appointed Strategic Initiative Leader for Governance, risk and Compliance (GRC) in August 2008, where she was responsible for leading the research, design, execution, and communication of EMC’s GRC vision and strategy. Patricia was appointed Americas CTO for Sales in January 2010, Americas and Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) CTO in March 2011, and Global CTO for Sales in July 2012. Before joining EMC, Patricia was the Vice President of Advanced Solutions at Smarts in White Plains, New York. In that capacity, Patricia was responsible for researching emerging technologies and for defining the strategy that Smarts would take in bringing solutions to market to address the challenges introduced by these technological advances. Patricia led the research, design, and first release of over half a dozen products. These have been driving millions of dollars in revenue and still remain in the market today. . Patricia is an EMC Distinguished Engineer, holds a Ph. D. in Computer Science from Columbia University in New York, graduated valedictorian with an MBA at the Stern Business School in New York University, and has a Master's and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, in Brazil. Patricia holds multiple patents, and has published in periodicals including Computer Networks and IEEE Proceedings. Patricia is a board member of the Columbia School of Engineering Board of Visitors. Founded in 1955, the Columbia Engineering Board of Visitors is approved by the Columbia University Trustees to “advise and assist the Trustees, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Dean in the development of the school.” Patricia is the chairman of the advisory board for the Data Science Graduate Program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where she will advise and assist in the school’s new program. Patricia is a board member of the Brazilian/American Chamber of Commerce where she assists in fostering relations with Brazil. Additionally, Patricia is also an active member and participant of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas organization. Patricia also serves as a mentor for several groups both inside and outside of EMC. She sits as mentor and judge for the Boston based Mass Challenge group, as well as the Boston Club for advancing women’s leaders.
The Linux FoundationBuilding on 25 years of industry experience managing the interface of technology and society, Philip is a rare mix of a technologist who understands how to enable business value and an entrepreneur who understands how to leverage the transformative power of technology. Philip comes to The Linux Foundation with wide-ranging experience inside and outside the technology industry. As CTO of LogMeIn’s Internet of Things platform, Philip was responsible for all aspects for strategy, technology, and the launch of the Xively product. Philip spent nearly ten years at Microsoft driving .Net evangelism and adoption. Philip was a co-founder of Ereo, a cloud-based image analysis and search service. He was Chief Scientist at Excite@Home. Philip served on the research team of the W3C, where he worked on security, trust, and privacy issues. Philip actively applies his skills a technologist with numerous socially focused organizations across the globe. Philip lives in Waltham, MA with his wife Michele, whom he met while they both served as Peace Corps volunteers in Uzbekistan. He holds a PhD in Industrial Marketing investigating the interplay of technology and society from LTU in Sweden, BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering from RPI, and is a graduate of the North Bennet Street School’s preservation carpentry program. He is a consummate tinkerer and an apple farmer.
SonyTim Bird is a Senior Software Engineer for Sony Corporation, where he helps Sony improve the Linux kernel for use in Sony's products. Tim is also the Chair of the Architecture Group of the CE Working Group of the Linux Foundation. This group seeks to improve Linux for use in consumer electronics products. In this position, Tim directs technical initiatives, and encourages companies to participate in the open source community. Tim has been working with Linux for over 20 years.
