The scholarship program exists to support individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend our events in two categories:
Diversity
Applicants must be from traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized groups in the technology and/or open source communities who are unable to attend without some financial assistance. Including, but not limited to persons identifying as: LGBTQIA+, women, persons of color, and/or persons with disabilities.
Need-Based
Applicants should be active community members who are not being assisted or sponsored by a company or organization and are unable to attend for financial reasons. This includes individuals who are pursuing higher education and are facing financial barriers due to education costs.
Diversity Funding
The Linux Foundation’s Travel Fund is intended to enable open source developers and community members to attend events that they would otherwise be unable to attend due to a lack of funding. We place an emphasis on funding applicants who are from historically underrepresented or untapped groups and/or those of lower socioeconomic status. If you work for a company that has the ability to fund your travel, we ask that you not apply, to save funds for those that need it.
Please fill out the form below to have your funding request considered. We receive about a thousand requests for funding each year. In order to maximize spend, travel fund assistance may only be used for:
Funds may not be used for miscellaneous travel expenses including food, visa costs, non-airport transportation, baggage fees, etc.
The Linux Foundation is trying to use funds to assist as many people as possible. As such:
Note: If your travel fund application is approved, you will be required to show proof of attendance in order to be reimbursed.

Cross Project Council (CPC) Community Fund
The OpenJS Foundation’s community fund supports travel and attendance at events and activities directly related to OpenJS projects, technologies, or goals. We support travel for individuals who are:
The fund can cover the costs, in whole or in part, of a participant’s hotel, transportation, and event registration for approved events. Applicants should explore employer-sponsored funding options as their first source of financial support. Additionally, 25% of the community fund is allocated specifically to support underrepresented groups. Funding decisions are determined by a combination of need and potential impact.
