About Austin

Waterloo. City of the Violet Crown. Bat City. Silicon Hills.

Those are just four of the nicknames that help “keep Austin weird”.  Located in the center of Texas, Austin is considered the live music capital of the world. This state capital has been celebrating Eeyore’s birthday since 1963 and has found that breakfast tacos really do keep the city together (we heard Juan in a Million has some great ones!)

Austin is a fast-growing city with over 5,500 start-ups and tech companies calling it home. From a famous musical nightlife to numerous wonders of nature in its backyard, Austin has a lot to offer. We hope to see you there!

Congress Avenue Bridge

Are you going batty? Well, you can every night, if you’d like. During the spring and summer, about 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge every night to forage for food.

The Broken Spoke

Head on over to the “last of the true Texas dance halls” to get your boot-scoot on. The Broken Spoke is a tiny but mighty dive bar where you can learn the traditional two-step, Western Swing and the Cotton-Eyed Joe as well as catch a live band while eating chicken fried steak.

Lady Bird Lake + Hiking Trails

Winding through trees, bridges, and more along the shores of the Colorado River, the Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail stretch from the Tom Miller Dam on the West side to the Longhorn Dam on the East. The trail’s 10.1 miles are some of the most popular in all of Austin.

Live Music + BBQ Crawls

Austin Detours’ “Real Austin” Tour gives you an inside scoop on living life as a local. They also feature a Live Music Crawl that shows you why Austin earned the reputation as the “Live Music Capital of the World.” Salt Lick & Winery Tour includes eating at the legendary Salt Lick BBQ and two stops at wineries in Austin’s hill country.
