Connect 5G in partnership with Arm and Xtreme5G will present a hands on workshop how to build a DYI network based on Tier 1 RAN, operating on CBRS spectrum. We will present the steps required for the integration between the Magma on Arm running on off-the-shelf HW and a Tier 1 RAN. After we demonstrate the integration, the users will be able to use the network, generate live traffic and experience first-hand the services on the DIY network.As a bonus, we will give away ClearFog devices to participants.

Nephio’s goal is to deliver carrier-grade, simple, open, Kubernetes-based cloud native intent automation and common automation templates that materially simplify the deployment and management of multi-vendor cloud infrastructure and network functions across large scale edge deployments. Nephio enables faster onboarding of network functions to production including provisioning of underlying cloud infrastructure with a true cloud native approach, and reduces costs of adoption of cloud and network infrastructure. The metaverse is believed to be the next evolutionary digital platform that offers virtual-reality experiences, a Web3 framework for economic interoperability, a creative place for social connections, or a hybrid of the above. It has received tremendous attention from not just the Tech industry but also other industries such as Entertainment, Gaming, Healthcare, Financial, Retail, etc. Leading Cloud Service Providers have been putting significant investments in building out their own proprietary metaverse enabling technologies and services while there are also various open source and standard projects and efforts that are in the works to meet the vision of the metaverse. It is conceivable that the massive compute, network, storage, edge, and security requirements to support a graphic intensive virtual reality universe will bring tremendous opportunities as well as challenges to Cloud Computing. 

In this event, we will give a general overview of the current state of various metaverse development efforts and ecosystem in the open source and standard arena, followed by a discussion on how the metaverse will impact cloud computing and the challenges the cloud service providers will face when trying to capture the opportunities presented by the metaverse, whether it’s Metaverse-as-a-Service, Metaverse Purposed Cloud, or Metaverse enabled by Hybrid Cloud, etc. We will conclude by introducing the LF Centaurus open source project, which is designed to provide large scalability, high performance, low latency, distributed cloud architecture with edge and AI support; and demonstrate how the Centaurus project shows the promise as the open source cloud platform for the metaverse by showing a healthcare metaverse use case running on a Centaurus cloud.
