This public park consists of Yokohama’s iconic waterfront with Hikawa Maru, an ocean liner from the 1930s that has been converted into a museum, its famous rose garden, and various historical fountains and monuments.
Sankeien Garden
Once the private home of Tomitaro “Sankei” Hara, a wealthy early 20th century silk entrepreneur, this garden opened up to the public in 1906. With the intention to promote the arts, this classical Japanese garden has become a cultural staple with over 17 historical significant buildings like the three story pagoda constructed in Kyoto mid-1400s, relocated to Sankei-en in 1914. With over 42 acres of rivers, waterfalls, valleys, and trails the Japanese government has also officially designated Sankeien Garden as a “Place of Scenic Beauty.
Yokohama Chinatown
As Japan’s largest Chinatown, Yokohama Chinatown cannot be missed with its numerous businesses and colorful gates. And one must be prepared for all those all you can eat lunch deals showcasing popular Chinese dishes like steamed buns and ramen noodles with a Japanese twist.
