About Project Participation
Projects and Working Groups under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation umbrella have the opportunity to engage, network and collaborate with peers and like-minded people in the cloud native community at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe in Valencia, Spain from May 16 – 20, 2022. Participating in this event allows you to gain valuable mindshare of a targeted audience while engaging with 5,000+ developers, architects, and technical leaders.
We invite CNCF Chairs of TAGs and Kubernetes SIGs working groups and Maintainers from graduated, incubating, and sandbox projects to participate in the below project benefits.
Project Benefits
Projects have the option to combine any of the above-preferred engagement levels* (project-level restrictions apply), for example:

Description of Benefits
Virtual Project Office Hours
Virtual Project Office Hours are an opportunity for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon attendees to meet the maintainers of the projects, learn more about the project, ask questions, learn about new features and upcoming updates. Projects receive a specified number of sessions (based on hierarchy). Each session is 45-minutes and hosted via Bevy to allow the flexibility for the maintainers to share screens, turn on their video and audio, chat with attendees via the chatbox, and record their session. This approach supports having complex conversations surrounding the project that would be better conveyed outside of a messaging system.
Project Office Hour schedule will be announced Wednesday, March 9.
In-Person Kiosk (Project Pavilion)
We believe in the value of face-to-face events and the connections + relationships that stem from them. An in-person kiosk at a KubeCon + CloudNativeCon event provides the opportunity for the project to have an ambassador and/or maintainer staff the booth to engage with attendees in-person and teach more about the project.
Booth Hours schedule will be announced Wednesday, March 9.
As a representative of your project, we expect you to:
- Be a current maintainer of the project.
- Educate attendees visiting the booth and encourage them to contribute to the projects.
- Answer questions.
- Be an overall spokesperson for your project.
We encourage you to share your use cases with your projects, and your organization’s involvement in the CNCF. However, you are prohibited from giving sales pitches to attendees about a product or company.
Kiosk Inclusions: One (1) monitor, one (1) locked cabinet for storage, and project logo signage only.
In-Person Project Meeting
TAGs, graduated, and incubating projects have the opportunity to take advantage of in-person meetings. This benefit allows TAGs and projects to book a 2hr meeting to discuss project related topics, features and issues among their maintainers. Project meetings will take place on Monday, May 16 or Tuesday, May 17 and are based on availability.
Project Meetings Inclusions: Meeting space for up to 30 attendees (KubeCon registration required), AV (screen + projector), beverages and power.
Attendees must be registered for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe to attend a project meeting.

Bug Bash
The Bug Bash brings developers together in a cooperative yet competitive model to fix bugs and make other security improvements on open source projects. Contributors gain points for each fixed issue and win prizes. Participating projects benefit from increased visibility, gaining new contributors, and improving the security and quality of their code.
Each project gets new and returning global community contributors working through a list of bugs curated by the Bug Bash team and OS project maintainers. In each of the last two Bug Bashes at KubeCon, contributors fixed over 700 bugs across 10 CNCF projects! This is a get clean, stay clean, approach to open source security, where contributors work together to reduce your backlog of vulnerabilities during the Bug Bash, then ongoing, you’ll have free forever access to analysis of each pull request on your project to find and fix issues during code review!
This year we will be expanding the bug bash to include Contributor Quests, if there are specific features or tricky bugs that your maintainer team is looking for community support on, we’ll assign points and participants will work together to address them! This is an incredible opportunity to upskill current and new contributors to your project in a gamified way, making it fun for maintainers and contributors alike!
CNCF Projects that have participated in the Bug Bash include Harbor, Chaos Mesh, Longhorn, Serverless Workflow, to name a few!
PR Support
KubeCon + CloudNativeCon events can provide an astounding platform for graduated and incubating projects to gain visibility with media and analysts. The CNCF PR team encourages and works with projects that want to take advantage of the captive media and analyst audience at each event to gain greater awareness of their work. The CNCF PR team is happy to work with you to help craft your communications and launch plans IF you can make your announcement at the show.
Benefits for projects announcing during the event include:
- CNCF PR team actively works with media and analyst partners to schedule briefings ahead of and during the conference for your project
- Your announcement highlighted as part CNCF’s press & analyst conference attendee
- Inclusion of news in our media package, which goes out to all interested media and analysts ahead of the event (so they have time to write articles or request briefings)
- A tweet from @CloudNativeFdn during KubeCon + CloudNativeCon
- Announcement post or re-post (from the project’s blog) on the CNCF.io blog
The outcome of this would be increased media coverage for the project from top industry publications including DevClass, SD Times, SiliconANGLE, The New Stack, TechTarget, InfoQ and ZDNet as well as exposure with top analysts from Gartner, 451 Research, RedMonk and more.

The deadline for submitting your interest for an In-Person Project Meeting, Virtual Project Office Hours, In-person Kiosk, Bug Bash, and PR Support is Friday, February 25. However, we encourage you to secure your spot today as space is limited and demand is high. Requests will be based on hierarchy.

What is the value of participating in these project offerings?
CNCF Projects can benefit from participating in one or more project offerings by engaging with the open source community and teaching attendees about the project and how to contribute.
I am not a CNCF project. Can I still participate in these project offerings?
At this time, we are only accepting CNCF projects to participate in the Project Pavilion.

If we host an In-Person Kiosk, do we receive passes for our booth staff?
We do not offer complimentary passes to projects hosting an in-person kiosk in the Project Pavilion. This has been a practice of the event since 2017. CNCF provides need-based scholarships and we recommend reviewing and applying.
What does the In-Person Kiosk include?
The kiosks provided onsite will include a monitor, locked cabinet for storage, and project logo signage. Any additional items/needs will have to be approved and ordered by the project.
Are we able to collect leads at our kiosk?
Capturing leads is not a benefit of hosting an in-person kiosk. The purpose of the Project Pavilion is to educate the open source community on CNCF Projects rather than present project or product sales pitches.
I am a sandbox project graduating to incubating before the event. Can I participate in PR Support?
If you’re graduating to incubating before the event, the CNCF team will reach out to you when your project passes the TOC vote. We’ll be able to provide support and details at that time.
What time zone will the Virtual Project Office Hours be held in?
The Virtual Project Office Hours will be held in Central European Standard Time (CEST).
Are we able to invite non-event attendees to our Virtual Project Office Hour?
We require all those who attend the virtual office hours to be registered for KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe. Note that there is a separate registration for project office hours.
Are the Virtual Project Office Hours recorded?
You have the option to record your Virtual Project Office Hour session. All video recordings will be sent to the main contact a week after the event. Projects are free to share the recording as they wish.
Is there an option to have a virtual booth?
Unfortunately, we are not offering the option for projects to host a virtual booth.
Do we have to attend the event in-person to join the Bug Bash?
No, you do not need to attend in-person to join the Bug Bash. The Bug Bash will take place virtually and in person.
