Tuesday, May 17 | 15:30 – 17:15 | Auditorium 3A | Event CenteR | FERIA VALENCIA
K8s after the Honeymoon: It’s Complicated
Join us for some delicious food and drink and a panel discussion moderated by The New Stack’s Alex Williams and Heather Joslyn where we will talk about the promise of K8s but also engage in a bit of “group therapy” talking about the hard realities of today. With more and more organizations moving from the “DIY” experimentation phase to “operationalization in production at scale”, many are still trying to navigate the complexity of the open source ecosystem, balance flexibility with control, and explore new use cases such as GitOps, or bare metal and edge deployments. Yes, it’s complicated, but the new modern K8s era is coming, for an ever-lasting relationship with cloud native innovation!

Does Green Software need Open Hardware? Hosted by Open Compute Project
By 2040 the communications technology sector it is expected to account for 14% of the world’s carbon footprint — up from about 1.5% in 2007, and in 2019, researchers at the University of Cambridge estimated that the energy needed to maintain the Bitcoin network surpassed that of the entire nation of Switzerland. Clearly this cannot continue and software needs to be evaluated by judging its performance on its energy efficiency as much as on traditional parameters. On top of the software itself, is the IT infrastructure and data center facilities that can make a huge difference on the ecological impact of software workloads. This panel will look at best practices and new technology directions that can change the current and dangerous ecological impact curve implied by the digitization of society.
