Benjamin Hindman is one of the creators of Apache Mesos. He began working on the project as a PhD student at UC Berkeley, and it followed him to Twitter where he is currently employed. Mesos now runs on thousands of machines at Twitter, Airbnb, etc. — even when Ben is away skiing in Tahoe or surfing in Santa Cruz. An academic at heart, Ben’s research in the areas of programming languages and distributed systems has been published in leading academic conferences. Ben has spoken about his research, Mesos, and his libprocess and stout libraries at numerous conferences and companies. He most recently spoke at FutureStack in SF and the Hadoop Summit Asia in Beijing.

Rebecca is the Executive Director and CEO of the Rust Foundation. She holds a PhD in Politics and Governance, and has worked as a consultant and researcher with governments, parliaments and development agencies all over the world, advocating for openness and transparency, and developing tools to improve digital participation. Rebecca is a Non-Executive Director for the UK Advertising Standards Authority, and a Trustee of the Hansard Society.

Since January of 2016 funding from various private foundations and industry partners have enabled my full time contributions to Project Jupyter. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to create, direct and manage innovative, high impact programs for Jupyter for the past eight years. I began as Operations Specialist focusing on project management, and transitioned to a leadership role as Director of Project Jupyter at Cal Poly in 2019. In addition to the contributions listed below, in 2018 I was the first and only non-engineer to be elected to the Jupyter Steering Council. I continued expanding my role in leadership in the following years as I lent my expertise to efforts to establish a new governance model for the project. I was elected as one of its inaugural leaders in December of 2022 and continue to serve on the Jupyter Executive Council.

Jono Bacon is a leading community and collaboration speaker, author, and podcaster. He is the founder of Jono Bacon Consulting which provides community strategy/execution, workflow, and other services. He previously served as director of community at GitHub, Canonical, XPRIZE, and OpenAdvantage. His clients include Huawei, GitLab, Microsoft, Intel, Google, Sony Mobile, Deutsche Bank, Santander, HackerOne, Mattermost, SAP, FINOS Foundation, The Executive Center, data.world, Creative Commons, and others. He is the author of ‘People Powered: How communities can supercharge your business, brand, and teams’ and The Art of Community, a columnist for Forbes and opensource.com, founder of the Community Leadership Summit, founder of Conversations With Bacon, and co-founder of Bad Voltage. He is an advisor to AlienVault, Moltin, data.world, Mycroft, Open Networking Foundation, and Open Cloud Consortium.

Gabriele is an open source technologist at heart. He spent over 15 years building developer ecosystems to deliver value through open source across Europe and the US. He thrives on driving innovation both contributing to open source communities and joining commercial open source ventures, whether it’s for an early stage tech startup, a Fortune 500 firm or a non profit foundation. He has recently won the Tech Leadership Award at FinTech Futures USA Banking Tech Awards.

As Executive Director Gabriele grew the Fintech Open Source Foundation (FINOS) from the ground up, with the vision of creating a trusted arena for the global financial services industry to innovate faster, leveraging open source as a model of collaboration. He then led FINOS to join the Linux Foundation umbrella to accelerate growth, ensure long term sustainability of efforts and reduce fragmentation in the Foundation’s ecosystem. In 2022, he took on a dual role as General Manager of the newly launched Linux Foundation Europe, which was created to foster regional open collaborations in the European continent and expand the global platform of the Linux Foundation.

Gabriele holds a Master in Computer Engineering, is a Committer for the Apache Software Foundation and advises open source startups. He’s a passionate soccer fan, reggae music connoisseur and special needs dad and advocate wannabe.

Pallavi is an engineering leader driving the development of high-performance and scalable search and security technologies for the open-source OpenSearch Project. With deep expertise in performance, databases, analytics, distributed systems, and cloud services, she is passionate about advancing innovation in open source. Previously, Pallavi held key leadership roles at IBM, where she focused on database systems and played a pivotal role in the Spark Technology Center. She is a frequent speaker at technology conferences, sharing insights on the future of AI powered search, data, and open-source evolution. Pallavi holds both a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.

Jim’s career spans three of the largest technology trends to rise over the last decade: mobile computing, cloud computing and open source software. Today, as executive director of The Linux Foundation, he uses this experience to accelerate innovation in technology through the use of open source and Linux.

At The Linux Foundation, Jim works with the world’s largest technology companies, including IBM, Intel, Google, Samsung, Qualcomm, and others to help define the future of computing on the server, in the cloud, and on a variety of new mobile computing devices. His work at the vendor-neutral Linux Foundation gives him a unique and aggregate perspective on the global technology industry.

Jim has been recognized for his insights on the changing economics of the technology industry. His writing has appeared in Businessweek, Wired, and other top technology journals, and he is a regular keynote speaker at industry events. He advises a variety of startups, including Splashtop, and sits on the boards of the Global Economic Symposium, Open Source For America, and Chinese Open Source Promotion Union.
