Visa Letter Request

Japan Visa Requirements

Please read carefully

At this time a Visa is required for all foreigners to enter Japan, due to COVID protocols. The first step in obtaining a visa is to be entered into the ERFS system by The Linux Foundation. Depending on your location’s RED/YELLOW/GREEN status, you may need to quarantine upon arrival in Japan. These rules get updated very often so the final entry requirements may be different when the event is planned to run than they are today.

Once you receive the ERFS approval from The Linux Foundation, you can apply for a visa at your local consulate. Please consult the Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs website for details on visa and entry requirements for your country.

As of August 16, 2022, US and Canadian citizens can now complete an online visa application for visiting Japan through the eVISA program. You will still be required to be entered into the ERFS system prior to applying online for your visa application.

If you need ERFS approval from The Linux Foundation, please complete this form by Monday, October 31, 2022, at the latest. This is the Linux Foundation application deadline. We encourage you to begin the process much earlier, as lead times vary among consulates and can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks (or more). Please consult your local consulate for the exact lead time needed to acquire your Visa.

Please note – obtaining ERFS approval from the Linux Foundation DOES NOT guarantee that you will receive a Visa to enter Japan.
