Travel Funding

The Dan Kohn scholarship program exists to support individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to attend CNCF events without assistance. 

Applicants should be active community members or maintainers who are not being assisted or sponsored by a company or organization, including anyone experiencing recent job loss or budget freeze.

Applicants should be from traditionally underrepresented and/or marginalized groups in the technology and/or open source communities. Including, but not limited to persons identifying as: LGBTQ+, women, persons of color, and/or persons with disabilities.

Registration Scholarship recipients will receive a complimentary registration pass. Registration Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of need and impact. Selection will be made by an assembled group of reviewers who will assess each applicant’s request.

Please note: Travel expenses are not covered under this Registration Scholarship. If you require travel funding in order to attend this event, please fill out the Travel Funding Application below.

The CNCF Travel Fund is intended to enable active community members to attend events that they would otherwise be unable to attend due to a lack of funding. We place an emphasis on funding applicants who are from historically underrepresented or untapped groups and/or those of lower socioeconomic status. If you work for a company that has the ability to fund your travel, we ask that you not apply, to save funds for those in need.

We receive thousands of requests for funding each year. CNCF is trying to use funds to assist as many people as possible. As such:

• We are often unable to fund one person across multiple events in a year
• Lower cost travel funding requests are more likely to get approved
• We typically do not fund the same person two years in a row

Please fill out the form below to have your funding request considered. In order to maximize spend, travel fund assistance may only be used for:

• Economy airfare or train tickets
• Accommodation for the dates of the event plus one night prior to the event start date
• Ground transportation to/from the airport

Note:  Travel funding is a reimbursement program. Reimbursements are made after the event. If your travel fund application is approved, you must present a government-issued photo ID at check-in; this serves as your proof of attendance required for reimbursement.

CNCF recommends that Registration Scholarship and Travel Funding applicants check with the event host country’s visa and application requirements prior to application submission.
