Phippy’s AI Friend
Children are already learning how to use AI and ChatGPT technology to assist them with their homework, but how do you make your own AI model? Help Phippy, the cloud-native giraffe, to invite all his friends to Zee’s birthday party by using AI technologies to help recognize his friends. In this workshop, you will learn how machine learning algorithms work, create a Scratch program to run an AI model, and test the recognition performance of the model using a web camera.
Learn AI by Making Games with Phippy!
What if you could dream up a game and bring it to life with AI? In this hands-on workshop, kids will team up with an AI coding assistant to create their own playable 2D games using the open source Godot game engine and colorful Phippy and Friends characters. From treasure hunts to tricky mazes, they’ll choose the adventure and help shape the rules. As they build, play, and improve their games, kids will practice giving AI clear instructions, checking its work, and solving problems when things don’t go as planned. Along the way, they’ll discover that AI can help write the code, but they’re the game designers in charge! No previous coding or game-making experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment, explore, and play!

Who Can Attend?
CNCF would like to invite children in Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas who are interested in technology, coding, and STEAM fields. This workshop is appropriate for ages 8 – 14 (kids under 8 are welcome, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
Are Parents Required to Stay During the Event?
Parents of children ages 8-14 are not required to stay during the event as long as they have accepted the medical authorization form when checking in their child onsite. Parents must stay if they do not agree to the medical authorization, or if their child is under the age of 8 years old.
What is the Dropoff / Pickup Process?
Upon arrival at the venue, navigate to the designated event space for Kids Day. Parents/guardians must check-in their child at the registration area and either consent to or decline the medical waiver and photo release form. Parents/guardians of children 8 years and older who have consented to the medical waiver are allowed to leave during the event, and must return by 4:15. All parents/guardians picking up their child at the end of the event must show proof of identification (drivers license, passport, or other government issued ID). Parents who remain at the event must still show proof of identification to pick up their child.
